Testing and treatment
  • Doctors are your confidant. Their job is to help you. Their role is to listen, examine, educate and treat you, not to judge or dislike you .
  • Don't be shy about talking about your problems . Doctors and midwives are sure to hear similar or worse conversations.
  • It is your job to tell your doctor/midwife about your problems . Without proper information, they will not be able to provide you with proper treatment. You should write down your questions and concerns beforehand to discuss them with your doctor/midwife. If you are not comfortable with your doctor/midwife, you can choose another one. It is your right to talk to your health care provider about your health problems.

Your doctor may need to do some tests to diagnose the infection, in addition to your descriptions and after examining you. Tests are usually on blood or discharge. Your doctor may take a sample from your urethra with the help of a device similar to an ear-cleanser. Based on the information gathered from those examinations, the doctor will decide how you will be treated.

The medications your doctor/midwife prescribes will vary depending on the cause of the disease. Your doctor/midwife may prescribe more than one type of antibiotic or antiviral drug. Bacterial diseases are often treated by taking antibiotics. In the case of viral illnesses such as herpes and warts, although effective treatments are available, they cannot be cured and may recur.

  • If you have a sexually transmitted disease or have had unprotected sexual intercourse, it is advisable to also take an HIV test. If the result is positive, you can get treatment early. You will need to go to a Behavioral Disease Advice Center for initial or additional testing. Get the address of these centers at: WWW.HIV-STI.ir
