Where is controversial musician Clifford Dimba aka General Kanene? Last heard he was back in jail after the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court denied him bail after yet another woman accused him of assault.
The latest accusation was from 32-year-old Modrine Chisenga of Lusaka’s Chawama compound. She says the musician attacked and beat her, leaving her with a swollen face, black eye and general body pains. This was second the accusation in the three months since he was released from prison in July.
In 2012, Kanene was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment with hard labour after he had ‘unlawful carnal knowledge of minor’ or sex with a girl under the age of 16. But President Edgar Lungu pardoned him in 2015 and appointed him his ambassador for the fight against gender violence.
But just weeks after he was released, reports indicated that Kanena was accused of beating up one of his three wives after she refused to have sex with him. But the latest victim says she is taking him on. After the alleged assault Chisenga went straight to the Chawama police, got a medical report of her injuries and charged Kanene with assault.
Kanene claimed that the woman was a prostitute who was trying to tarnish his “big name”. Chisenga said that is not true: “I am a businesswoman. I supply local bars with alcohol which I order from Zimbabwe.” She said she is going to make sure “the law can deal with him”. He has no respect for women. I have opened a docket,” she said.
