At least 4 500 grade seven pupils dropped out of school this year. Most of them were girls who left school after falling pregnant or getting married.
Some MPs are also concerned that these young people are being being taken advantage of by richer, older women or men. But what can be done?
There are two suggestions - more sexual education and distributing condoms through schools. Dropping out of school to become a parent or get married when you’re very young means you might struggle to find a job. Waiting to start a family is key for a good future for you and them.
Plus, having sex when you’re young, especially if you have an older partner, can put you at risk of catching an STI or HIV. If you are going to have sex, use a male condom or female condom every time you have sex to protect yourself and your partner from STIs and unwanted pregnancy.
As a young person, what do you think? Should condoms be distributed in schools or not?
Condoms in schools!
But will it stop school drop outs?
