A Kitwe woman has been granted a divorce from her husband of ten years. The reason? He had been having sex with her mother and she was carrying his child.
The Zambia Daily Mail reports that Grace Banda and Mwila Kalobo got married in 2006 and have two children together.
Banda was a trader at Kitwe’s Chisokone Market and she would leave home in the morning to work and would only return home from work late at night. Her mother came to help and stayed for three months. But the Mail reports that her mother left suddenly. Banda said that when she went to the village to visit her mother she found her six months pregnant.
Kalobo admitted he was the father. He told the court that his mother in-law used to do everything for him at home while his wife was away all day. He ended up having a secret sexual affair with her.
Magistrate Ndhlovu granted the divorce and said it was totally taboo for Kalobo to sleep with his mother-in-law.
