Sex with my daughter?

A 15-year-old boy has to pay a stiff fine for impregnating his girlfriend - who is 16. This is a case before a local court in Boma.

The court heard how the girl’s parents took the boy to court and demanded payment after finding out their daughter, who is in Grade 12, is pregnant.

The father of the child has admitted he is the father. He told the court they were dating, according to the Zambian Daily Mail.

“She was my girlfriend. We started dating in September last year and she discovered that she was expecting my child in March this year.”

He now faces the double cost of having to pay a K3,500 fine and the lifelong costs of supporting his child. Added to that, the girl’s mom has also asked the court to rule that the boy now needs to pay for the girl’s school fees as well. He is in Grade 11.

The boy told the court he didn’t know how he was going to meet his girlfriend’s family demands because he was still a school boy and has no income.

The court said the boy was expected to provide support once the baby is born as well as pay for damages.

The judge noted that both the boy and girl were responsible for the pregnancy. It also advised against the two marrying because they were still both at school.

A baby is forever. That's one good reason it is illegal to have sex before you are 16. Children aren’t ready to have babies, and don’t have the means to pay for them. Delay having sex and if you are old enough then make sure you use a condom every time to prevent a pregnancy.
